04 — Recovery & Aftercare
Manual therapy that supports circulation and helps reduce swelling during recovery.
Overview
Manual lymphatic drainage is a gentle, rhythmic massage technique that encourages the lymphatic system to move fluid away from swollen tissue. After surgery, swelling is a normal part of healing — drainage helps that fluid move along rather than sit and settle.
A trained therapist uses light, directional strokes that follow the lymphatic pathways. It should not be painful; the pressure is deliberately soft, because the vessels being encouraged sit just beneath the skin.
Most often after body or facial surgery, as part of a recovery protocol agreed before your procedure. The number and timing of sessions is set by your medical team and adjusted according to how you respond.
Sessions are calm and comfortable. Your therapist checks the treated area each time and reports anything that needs your doctor's attention.
