Compression Therapy

Compression protocols that support healing and help reduce swelling.

Overview

What to know.

What is it?

Compression applies steady, controlled pressure to a treated area — usually through garments worn for a set period after a procedure — to support the tissue while it heals.

How does it work?

Even pressure helps limit fluid build-up and supports the tissue as it settles into its new contour. It is one of the least glamorous parts of recovery and one of the most important.

  • Helps limit swelling and fluid build-up
  • Supports tissue as it settles after body procedures
  • Worn to a schedule set by your surgical team
  • Reviewed at your follow-up appointments

When is it used?

Most often after body procedures such as liposuction or abdominoplasty. Your team explains exactly what to wear, for how long, and when it can be reduced.

FAQ

Common questions.

How long do I have to wear compression?
This is set by your surgical team and depends on your procedure — it is explained clearly before you start.
Is it uncomfortable?
It can feel firm at first. It should be snug and supportive, never painful — tell us if it is.
Is compression really necessary?
For many body procedures it materially affects the final result, which is why it is planned in from the start.
